All Belimo University PDH courses have been approved by the appropriate governing bodies in order to be eligible for continuing education credits.
Courses include:
District Cooling and the Effects of Low ∆T (1-PDH credit)
Chilled water provided from a utility plant is commonly used in a building’s HVAC system in lieu of installing chillers. Lower return water temperatures or low ∆T decreases the efficiency of the entire chilled water system. This condition is known as “Low ∆T Syndrome”. Low ΔT syndrome is the result of the inefficient use of chilled water at the point of consumption. This presentation will provide a review of district chilled water system design and how low ∆T impacts both the chillers and the buildings the chillers are serving. We will also cover low ∆T and how it impacts pumping, causes of low ∆T, attempts to correct low ∆T and the relationship between low ∆T and chiller capacity. In conclusion, we will review a study of a building where “Low ∆T Syndrome” was corrected at the point of water to air heat transfer.
Eliminating the High Cost of Over Pumping (1-PDH credit)
This 50-minute presentation will examine how inadequate hydronic balancing will cause over-pumping and low delta T. Low delta T is very costly but can be corrected. Keeping the water in the coils per their design will allow chillers, coils, and pumps to perform according to their design specifications. We will review savings calculations based on correcting low delta T.
Optimizing Performance to Save Energy and Improve Control (1-PDH credit)
The benefits of using pressure independent valves are vast, and technology continues to expand the scope of these benefits. In this course, you will learn how pressure independent valve can make you hydronic system more stable, easier to control and less expensive to operate. In addition, you will learn about the pressure independent valve technologies that are available in the marketplace. This discussion begins with simple mechanically regulated PI values and goes all the way to the electronic pressure independent valve (ePIV) and the Belimo Energy Valve (which is a pressure independent control valve with a fully integrated BTU meter).
Pressure Independent Control Valve Technology (1-PDH credit)
Pressure independent valves are commonly used in the HVAC industry for the control of chilled and hot water for air-conditioning and heating. PI valves supply a specific flow for each value of the DDC control signal regardless of pressure variations in the system. In this presentation we will discuss valve characteristics and how they relate to hydronic coil performance, valve sizing, and valve authority as well as how these elements affect the operation of the equipment in the central energy plant. To conclude there will be a review of the different types of pressure independent valves and valve technologies.
Hydronics Control Valve - Specifications, Sizing & Technologies (1-PDH credit)
A 60-minute session reviewing the common rules of thumb for hydronic valve sizing. Topics include a review of common valve types, specifications, and applications. Control valve sizing for HVAC applications with emphasis on pipe geometry factors and fluid velocity. Participants should be able to review valve submittals with an eye towards proper application and sizing.
Understanding and Applying HVAC Sensors (1-PDH credit)
This one-hour PDH course features a basic overview of HVAC sensors and their application in common systems. Topics covered include; types of sensors, sensor technologies, installation practices, and specifying sensors. At the end of the course, participants should have a better understanding of how to select and specify sensors.
Airside Economizer Modules - Maximize the Efficiency of Packaged HVAC Equipment (1-PDH credit)
This presentation addresses the need for effective airside economizing, specifically in packaged HVAC equipment. Included are analysis of legacy economizers and the associated challenges as well as updates to ASHRAE standards and requirements for airside economizing. Also covered are technical advancements related to newer digital economizers and the requirements for proper setup and installation to maximize economizer hours for the associated climate zones. The four major economizer strategies and modes are addressed. Optional functionality including demand control ventilation, exhaust fan control, alarming as well as fault detection and diagnostics are included as well.
Smoke Damper Actuators (1-PDH credit)
This one-hour PDH course features a basic overview of smoke damper actuators and their control. Topics covered include; codes and jurisdictions, smoke control strategies, smoke control dampers & actuators, testing & maintenance, and specifying smoke damper actuators.
